Abstract
By using integrated heat treatment out of the forging heat the process chain for precision forged parts is significantly shortened with clear savings in energy and time. Using a water-air-spray-cooling system a surface layer quench and temper treatment can be achieved without reheating the part after quenching. In this work simplified models and pinion shafts (1.7225) were QT treated using a rotating sprayfield. The achieved hardness and microstructure were analyzed. It was possible to accomplish a successful QT treatment on both components. This work shows first results, whereas fatigue strength tests are planned in future.
