Abstract
In bulk forming processes, the contact conditions are inhomogeneously distributed and change throughout the process, resulting in local variations of lubrication. However, current friction models assume constant lubricant behaviour, whereby numerical predictions only reach a limited agreement. A new method is presented to characterize the lubricant behaviour. The obtained experimental data serve as a basis for the development and parameterisation of a location-dependent friction model, taking accont of sliding distance, sliding velocity, normal stress, and temperature.
