Abstract

The calibration and validation of highly developed numerical models for the calculation of wave kinematics inside the surf zone is a difficult task. With photogrammetric techniques it is possible to cover a large area and obtain digital water surface models with high resolution in space and time. These surface models are very well suited to provide boundary conditions for a numerical model and can also serve as a reference for the numerical simulation everywhere inside the area of analysis. This paper describes a photogrammetric method developed over the last years for deriving digital surface models from stereoscopic image sequences and compares numerical simulations with a Boussi-nesq model based on conventional measurements and photogrammetric data.
